DIY Carpet Refresher & Room Deodorizer

Hey! Erin here! Happy Earth Day!!!!

In honor of Earth Day, I thought it would be cool to touch on a few outside the box ideas you can do with your oils! Here’s a couple of cleaning recipes that I’ve been using!

We live on a farm with horses and chickens. It’s dirty. It’s dusty. It’s stinky.  Sometimes even after vacuuming our back room (where EVERYONE hangs out) it still is kind of funkadelic. It’s a word… As of right now.  I usually sprinkle a little baking soda on it and let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the smell, but today I had a brilliant idea. I thought to myself “I wonder if I could use oils to give it a little oomph!”

Oomph it gave! I dropped a couple drops of Purification into some baking soda and whisked it around a bit, then used a mesh sieve to sprinkle it onto the floor and let it sit for a few minutes. If you have toddlers, now is a great time for a snack break so they aren’t stomping all over the carpet in question.  After a few minutes we came back to a room that smelled amazing, and we tag teamed the floor with our vacuums.  Boom! Our floor was clean and smelled lovely, without any funky chemicals that could hurt anyone.  How freaking awesome is that?!

So, I totally never measure anything but here’s a rough estimate of what I used.

DIY Carpet Refresher:

½ cup Baking Soda (or more depending on the size of room you’re working with. You don’t need much.)
5-10 Drops of your favorite essential oil

Whisk together and sprinkle it over your carpet and let it sit for at least ten minutes, or for as long as the kids and pets will tolerate not walking in the room.  If that’s the case, make sure it’s something gentle like lavender.

DIY Room Deodorizer:

¼ cup Baking Soda
5 drops of your favorite essential oil

I added some baking soda to a pint sized mason jar and dropped a couple drops of my oil of choice—today it was Purification with a little Lemon, into it and whisked it around for a minute. I placed it into a room that gets used a lot less (the storage room also known as my future office) to hopefully get rid of some of the staleness in the air, and allow me to use my diffuser in other parts of the house!

Purification + Baking Soda can ALSO be used to defunk your mattress! Sprinkle it on like you would the carpet, let it sit for 20 or so minutes, and BOOM.  Clean mattress!
